Me and You...and You and Me...No Matter How They Toss The Dice, It Had To Be...
Montreal was amazing...we had sooooo much fun, and I'll post pics as soon as I'm free enough to do so (I'd imagine sometime mid-next-week when I'm back in London)...an extra special thanks to those who planned, and to all for making it the best part of this reading week...
I think sometimes, you lose sight of where you stand with your friends...you can think you're alot closer or further apart than you really are...and finding out where you both are, it's not necessarily a bad thing...
It may well be sad or unfortunate that there lies such a discrepancy between those 2 states, but in realizing where you're at, you can put forth that extra effort to build upon your relationship and take it to where it should be, or to simply make it better!
I don't say it enough, but ah luv y'all (sometimes, I think it'd be fun to be an Asian guy from the South)...each of you plays such an important role in my life...you're my rock, my shield, my strength, my inspiration, and my joy...
On a side note, tomorrow me and Tim go to Loo to visit Ryan for the night before coming back on Thursday...it'll be the first time we've all been together since we celebrated Simon's birthday at the beginning of November! yeah yeah yeah!!
SOOOOOOOO excited...wheeeeeeeeee...

Tell Me What You Thought About When You Were Gone...
So...recently, this seems to have come up in conversation a great deal...this whole 'blogging' phenomenon...what's it for??
Sure, people blog for their own reasons...and yes, that's all you need to blog, and that's that...some blog to amuse people, others blog to empty their thoughts and feelings...some blog to tell the world of their most exciting day, others reflect on what's wrong with all that is...some explore their thoughts in carefully written detail, others jot down their intricate stories in point form...
But however you do it...you want what you've written to be read...I mean, that's the point of doing it on the internet, right? that whatever insightful commentary you have to offer is something that someone else might want to see, know, hear or notice...
So you've got to tradeoff what you write...to a certain degree... you add some flash alongside substance you take a little length to appeal to shorter attention spans you remove the mundane details of your day to not bore everyone... and you should right?
You want someone to read what you write...so you essentially have to cater to that audience...you do what you can, to spread your word...the thing is, what if you don't want to sacrifice your thoughts to appease the many? you may think, this is what I've got to say and this is how I'm going to say it...so forget the people who won't read it...
But what if no one's reading anymore?
Now, some may liken this to that avant-garde writer who pens a teen flick...or that hardrocker who records that radio-friendly bubble-gum-ballad...well the difference to them 'selling out' is that it's for money...but the point is, you've gotta appeal to the masses...you've got to appeal to someone other than yourself if you want to be heard...
But if you're doing it solely as a call for attention...solely to turn the heads your way...ya may want to rethink what you're doing...
...or at least be more amusing...

The Chronicles of Herbert...
Tonight, I don't have any life lessons...no spouting off on how we should live life...no banter on what we hold important...not even a useless quip on the intricacies of relationships on this Valentine's Day (have a happy one by the way)...
No, tonight, I share with you my stupidity...I mean, as my pretty baby Natalie said, "If you can't laugh at yourself, life is going to seem a whole lot longer than you'd like."...oh what a wise and pretty girl she is...
So, in first year...me and Simon took English together...cuz we figured, hey...if one of us doesn't go, the other one can cover...we can edit eachother's work...we wouldn't have to buy all the books, we can just read eachother's...and we can just share notes instead of taking 2 sets...all in all, a brilliant plan...except for one small kink...
Neither of us went...EVER...
One of us would wake up, and this is what would happen: "Hey, wake up..." "yeah?" "you wanna go to class?" "no...do you?" "not really...we'll go next week" "k"
And then, we'd both go back to sleep (in our own beds...not the same one...moving on)...and this happened ALOT...like, all the time...including the first several classes, so neither of us actually had a syllabus...so even when we cared enough to wonder what was going on, we couldn't find out...then we'd stop caring again...a vicious cycle of stupidity and apathy all rolled into one...
Then one morning, completely out of the blue...I think we'd both stayed up the entire night playing video games or doing something completely stupid...anyways, we figured what the hell...let's both go today! it'll be fun and exciting...
So we went...we were late...we get there, we peer into the classroom...and people are quietly sitting with their heads down, writing like mad...and wouldn't ya know it...it was our first midterm!
So we went in...and wrote...I think Simon marginally passed...I failed that first exam...quite badly too, haha...
Sigh...
So, it's 5am...what'm I doing up and blogging at this hour? I have a 35% term paper due today at 9am...and I'm about 1/2 done...what'd I do all night? I talked with alot of people...watched people play video games...watched the raps on tv...and now, now I'm slightly sleepy...
Ah...the beat goes on...the beat goes on to the rhythm of the brain...
But y'know what? I've had such a memorable time here (despite the overwhelming idiocy at certain times) that I wouldn't trade it in for anything...I've got some great stories to tell people...it was fun and it still is...so live it up people...look back and laugh, look forward and smile...but for now, watch your step on the way outt...

Anywhere You Go, I'll Follow You Down...
Why does being attracted to someone negate the fact that they exhibit stalker-like tendencies?
Disclaimer: I am speaking out of observation at the moment, I am not now being stalked by, nor am I currently stalking, anyone...
So here's the deal...you sometimes call her just to say hey, see how she is, see if she wants to do something...blah blah...
If she likes you, this is perceived as the behaviour exhibited by the nice guy...the sweet guy...you're just the caring friend she always wished she had...which you may well be...it is possible to lie in wait in this most horrid of places: the friend who's going nowhere...
However, if she dislikes you...it's immediately perceived as being stalker-esque...at which point, the appropriate action is taken on her part (shying away, avoiding you, getting her friends to tip you off, and finally a restraining order is put in place)...
The tricky part lies in her being neutral towards you...if you appear too needy, that pushes her away...if you remain distanced, she'll never get the hint...it's a tricky thing...this business of liking someone...
I hear you asking, but what about the girl's part in this? surely she must play some part...and you are correct, she does...she plays the part of the cruel unparticipating observer...she sits back in all her evil glory watching you toil and expend your every effort, while she dangles you on the thinnest string of hope...
So why do we play? cuz we're dumb...simple and straight-forward...we're dumb...we don't learn...we may write pointless reflections on what we appear to have 'learned', but no...we haven't...we see and take mental note, yet we cannot generalize the behaviour of others to our own lives...
Now, don't read this with my being bitter in mind...because I'm not, honest...at least not for the moment...I post simply to forward my notions of our inner-workings...hopefully, my unlearned lessons can be yours as well...
Simply put...we are dumb...they are evil...
Worst
Combination
Ever
With that said...goodnight kids, and watch your step on the way outt...

Start Spreading the News, I'm Leaving Today...I Want To Be A Part Of It...
So, I went out last Friday for Joel's birthday with a bunch of his friends from Thornbury...and I always think it's something when a close-knit group easily accomodates others...
I mean, it's a difficult thing to do...they've literally grown up with eachother...and to just spend time with them and not feel like an outsider is a pretty cool thing to be a part of...
Our high-school group has been together forever...generally, I think we're pretty good at letting people in...but I wonder how people out of the loop feel about us? do we reminisce too much? are our inside jokes really as funny as we think?
The weirdest thing about mixing in with a group of people is when you realize you're not an outsider anymore...you aren't listening to stories, you're helping to tell them...you aren't looking at their pictures, you're looking at your own...
Friends, acquaintances...whatever...your relationships with people go up and down...the groups you're a part of...the ones you still feel out of...don't pay too much attention to what you were to eachother...don't even think about what you can someday be to eachother...treasure the people you know today and just be...
Man, it's going to suck leaving here...

Sing like you think no one's listening...
So, I used to be very indecisive...like, retardedly so...high-schoolers, you can attest to this fact...
But...it wasn't so much that I couldn't decide...it's moreso that I simply didn't care to...for the most part, I didn't care what I ate...I didn't care what we did...I was simply content with just letting things be...it became little more than an arbitrary choice where the benefits of each option were essentially weighted equally...
I always knew the pros/cons of each...and when the important decisions needed to be made (I chose Western, didn't I?), I could do it (despite the usual procrastination on my part)...but the mundane choices of everyday life were left to "hey you, choose option A or option B for me"...
Obviously, I've changed a great deal since then...some would view this as growth...that I now have the ability to choose...or have I simply become more picky with the things I want in life? that easy-going nature...that "whatever will be, will be" attitude...has it died down?
However you look at it, I think I've lost sight of the fact that in the major decisions in life...when you play it smart, there's rarely a wrong decision...when you go into things informed, and you've thought things out carefully, you can't view choices as being right or wrong...why would you even consider a course of action if it's wrong?
Thus, I'm left believing the few serious choices we make at those times in our lives should be thought of in varying degrees of rightness...some decisions are more right than others...but even if we don't choose the best course of action (for whatever reason), the fallback plan still has its high-points and merits...
It comes down to believing in what you're doing...

"There's a moment in my mind,
I scribbled and erased a thousand times,
Like a letter never written or sent,
These conversations with the dead,
I used to be a sentimental guy,
Now I'm haunted by the left unsaid."
Ben Folds - Sentimental Guy
